  • Participate on Saturday only. If you register before May 1st, you are eligible for a discounted price!
  • Participate on Saturday only. Bring your own horse to join in the fun and learning!

If you wish to register as an auditor, you will have to go back to the main clinic list and choose CUSTER, SD - AUDITOR instead of CUSTER,SD - PARTICIPANT.

Clinic Goals

This clinic will teach your horse to accept any rider, no matter what level you are and become a true partner with your horse.  You'll play with your fluidity while someone else plays with your horse!  This will be a achieved through riding activities and exercises which will help build your confidence and positive muscle memory.  You'll teach your horse to keep a rhythm to help you stay balanced, build your strength and your flexibility.  Your horse will accept you at the level you are at and help you become a better rider!

  • Patterns:  figure 8 - weave - touch it - obstacles
  • Building up to 4 feet on the pedestal
  • Teeter-totter
  • circling transitions
  • traveling circles
                                      Freestyle
  • over preparing your horse to accept a rider
  • bareback mounting
  • finding your balance point
  • breathing and riding
  • staying fluid with and without a saddle
  • pushing passenger
  • beginning vaulting
  • dismounting while in motion
  • riding exercises
  • lateral flexion - indirect/direct rein
  • sit on your thumb - no air between your butt and the saddle
  • squish the butt - riding the canter

Directions to Sue Towne's arena:  From Custer, take hwy 16 west, turn left at stop light onto hwy 385 south.  Go 6.5 miles to Mayo Rd.  Turn right(west) onto Mayo Rd. and go 1 mile to Horse Camp Rd. Veer left onto Horse Camp Rd. and to 1/2 mile to residence.   Address: 25792 Horse Camp Rd. - it will be on the left hand side of the road.  Road is narrow - will accommodate a large rig.
