     Freestyle Patterns Playgroup

Level 2 - confident -  Progress to level 2 patterns in a confined area on a loose rein and begin using a carrot stick to direct your horse, more than your reins.  Improve your balance and body language
Level 3 & 4 - Skilled - Progress to level 3 & 4 patterns in larger areas on a loose rein and progressively get where you can use two carrot sticks and not use your reins.  Test your balance and harmony with your horse.
  • Level 2 freestyle patterns - follow the rail, figure 8, weave, million transitions, question box, obstacles, bow-tie
  • Level 3 & 4 freestyle patterns - follow the rail, figure 8, weave, million transitions, question box, obstacles, bulls-eye, corners games, sideways box, 180s, clover leaf, bow-tie (prepare for flying changes), flying changes for those who are ready
               ~ Activities we will play with ~
  • passenger lesson at trot and canter
  • bridle and unbridle from your horse's back
  • refined direct and indirect rein
  • lateral flexion with 1 and 2 sticks
  • disengage with 2 carrots sticks
  • transitions: halt-walk-trot-canter
  • carrot stick(s) on your shoulders, trot / canter 4 laps with less than 4 corrections
  • 20's sideways without a fence, open a gate
  • squeeze riding through a narrow space

*Equipment needed:  hackamore or snaffle, 2 carrot sticks,
  bareback pad or saddle

*minimum qualification: official or unofficial level 2 freestyle

*The minimum qualifications are put in place to assure that you are in the class that would be of the most benefit to you.  This also will help you set goals and be more of a leader for your horse!  You don’t need to have already officially passed with Parelli, just show one of the instructor (Farrah) your audition tape and she will let you know!
