Building Confidence/
Preparation for Riding
Freestyle Level 1

Minimum Requirements:  Auditioned Level 1, Level 2 On Line*

Instructors:       Farrah Green - 2 Star Parelli Instructor
Michelle Manshardt - 1 Star Parelli Instructor

Goals:  Teach your horse to accept any rider - not matter what level - and help them stay on - be a partner.  Play with your fluidity while someone else plays with your horse!  A controlled passenger lesson to build up your confidence and positive muscle memory.  Teach your horse to keep a rhythm to help you stay balanced.  Mounting and dismounting for safety.  Exercises to build your strength and flexibility.

Here are some topics that may be covered in the four 90-minute long sessions in this course.  This is the first time this course has been run, so there is a chance that we might not get to all of these topics.  In class, if there is a specific issue that you need help with, please let the instructors know – there might be someone else in the class with the same question!  We look forward to seeing you there!

  • Pre-paring for mounting
  • Over prepare your horse to accept a rider
  • Bareback mounting
  • Finding your balance point
  • Breathing and riding
  • Lateral Flexion, moving the hind, front feet
  • Teaching your horse to allow you to ride
  • Teaching your horse to accept you at the level that you are at and help you become a better rider

The goal of this class is to dissipate the fear of riding by giving your sub-conscience positive patterns to rely on.  You can always repeat the course if you feel as though you need more supervised practice with any of the topics listed above.  Graduation means that the instructors feel you can ride safely and comfortably at a minimum of a walk and a trot.  Mount and dismount athletically.

There is $5 trailer-in fee due to The Horse First Farm at the time of arrival.  Stabling is available for $25/ day.

For more information please contact Barb Riffle at barb@sittinghorse.us or at (608) 219-6399.

*The minimum qualifications are put in place to assure that you are in the class that would be the most benefit to you.  This also will help you set goals and be more of a leader for your horse!  You don’t need to have already officially passed with Parelli, just show one of the instructors (Michelle, Farrah) you audition tape and we will let you know!
